Crosby Design Group was recently recognized at the 5th Annual Best of the Best Design Awards, presented by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Georgia Chapter. Held annually since 2017, the Best of the Best Design Awards is the highest honor IIDA Georgia can bestow upon a design team, recognizing design excellence and creativity that pushes boundaries and exceeds expectations.

Submissions for the Awards were evaluated based on answers to project-related questions. For the EVOQ Town Flats clubhouse, Jordan Evans, lead architectural designer with Crosby Design Group, designed the complete project concept and was responsible for all construction ID documents, as well as specifying fixtures, furniture, and equipment (FF&E).

According to Evans, the primary objective for the clubhouse was to create a multifunctional amenity that would promote a sense of connectivity and community. Ease of entertaining and socializing were key components driving the design strategy, as was the need for flexibility and the ability for spaces to be used for a variety of activities.

“The client requested an open, cohesive layout with an uninterrupted flow between spaces, while simultaneously providing designated zones and the option for privacy where needed,” Evans said. “The key demographic for this project is defined as ‘mature professionals’ i.e., empty nesters, active seniors or anyone over age 55 still in the workforce. It was essential the amenity spaces be geared toward the needs of this group and that they evoke a sense of community by bringing people together.”

The most unique challenge of the project was the timeline, according to Evans; Crosby Design Group reconfigured the layout to promote a more communal, cohesive experience, working around already-existing structural elements. An open dialogue and ongoing coordination between the interior, architecture and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) teams was vital to the success of the project.

“The design concept centers around an aesthetic that feels simultaneously playful and restrained, a delicate balancing act between classic, timeless style and fresh, spontaneous exuberance,” Evans said. “The arrangement of spaces is intentional with a focus on scale and proportion.

“Specific programming elements address client objectives and enhance user experience by delivering activated spaces that awaken the senses of sound, taste and smell. A thoughtful mixology of texture, pattern and color is woven throughout the space and juxtaposed against the sophisticated appeal of the interior architecture.”
